Welcome to goo.dgirl.gay. A small microblogging instance using \"GoToSocial\", doubling as a social platform on the Fediverse, for Nitsa & Omega.
You can learn more about us here.
Accessibility and ease of running. While projects like Mastodon, Sharkey, or their various forks are great. They are also quite heavy to run. We're both fans of having something that is really basic and taking as little web space as possible. GoToSocial is much easier to run than bigger projects like Mastodon or Glitchsocial.
GoToSocial also has a much simpler UI. Profiles are pretty much a static page, making it easier to access and read via accessibility tools such as reader mode, or even text based browser. Due to the dynamic and heavily dependent on JavaScripting nature of other solutions, such tools wouldn't be able to properly function using these.
GoToSocial is very much a smaller project and it is still in early development. However, in the end, after much consideration, we both think it is right choice for us.
As stated above, we are much more fond of smaller projects. We want as much control as we can get over our internet presence. In a time where the rights of minorities to be comfortable online is treated as an afterthought if not totally ignored, we don't feel comfortable on more mainstream platforms. We don't want to be dependent on opaque moderation, user hostile policies, unpredictable business model, ad-filled interfaces, or having to worry about our posts feeding AI or whatever.
As for larger Fedi instance, large instances have their advantages but it's also inevitable for them to be filled with drama. Our real lives are complicated enough for us to add on to them with these kinds of tensions.
Making our own space, fitting our own vision of what we want the internet to be, was the best solution.
Most likely no, this is a very limited space. It's for both of us first and foremost, so unless we know each other in real life, it's not going to happen. Not only do we not want to have to do heavy moderation work but most importantly: It's not the point of this place and is not what we're interested in at all.
We are two different people. We don't agree on everything and we speak only in our names. What Nitsa says doesn't necessarily reflects what Omega thinks, and what Omega posts isn't approved by Nitsa first. Vice versa.

Most of this was written by me, however, the hosting and backend work is done almost exclusively by Nitsa, without who, this project would be simply be impossible. Not only is she giving me access her knowledge, but also her time to make this project work, and I am very thankful. Most of the work that has been put into this project is from her alone.
